a look at the election…

So, the election has changed over the past few days - Thursday’s debate has managed to actually make a difference, with the Lib Dems on 33% in today’s YouGov poll, compared to Conservative’s 32% and Labour’s 26%. I joined the Lib Dems last September, and although I may not be as active a supporter as @arbsnb, I still support Clegg’s plan for change, but it is interesting how it has all managed to change.

Today there is debate as to whether the Lib Dems can keep up this lead, improve on it, or even whether it will translate fully to success at the polls - it’s interesting to note other polls still have the Tories in the lead, albeit by a few points. The two other main party leaders have begun to put pressure onto Clegg in a desperate attempt to gain back votes from someone who they now see as the REAL opposition, and Cameron has warned of the ‘dangers of a hung parliament’. Personally, I’m liking the change in public opinion, and I hope this change continues to improve. From the opinion many have on the streets, many believe it will be either Labour or Tory, and have become apathetic to the same 2 parties regaining power, with many just not voting as they don’t think it will change anything.

I would’ve liked voting reform to get rushed through and to come into this election, meaning proportional representation would change EVERYTHING (example: look at the EU Elections, where a small fry party like UKIP beat Labour) but its still positive to see that after this change, the Lib Dems could really have a chance of making a big success. I know I’m biased on this, but it seems to stop voter apathy, there needs to be a real change from Blue or Red, and I think its time for a sunny Yellow to spread across the country - the party is big enough, and in the wake of the debate, getting bigger. Here’s hoping Clegg can keep the wave of optimism up; one slip and he’s back to square one.

ch-ch-ch-changes…

I figure I may as well start actually blogging on this thing, rather than just endlessly formspring-ing you.

So yeah, there have been lots of changes this year. I’ve made more friends, lost some, been betrayed, fallen in love, considered my future and earned pennies. You know, just standard stuff.

I think its difficult to say how much university has changed me as a person. Beforehand I only had a few friends (which I still have, luckily :D ) and I was directionless in my life. I think that has more to do with my experience at Epsom than anything; the things that happened there were to grind me down again and make me really re-assess my life, and also send me into another bout of depression, which I have thankfully got through.

This year at uni has been…different. I’ve moved in with friends who I sadly wouldn’t call friends anymore - living with people does that to you. Oddly though, the people I didn’t know are now friends - a complete reversal to the beginning of the year.

I’ve also got involved in RamAir. The people there are really cool, and although everyone may not get along, its been a positive experience so far. What wasn’t so positive was my tenure as LGBT Officer.

To be honest, I’ve pretty much said all I need to on this; NUS people will be able to view a private note soon with thank yous and such. If you’re in Bradford, you can read my article in the Bradford Student and if you’re on council/exec, you shouldve got my letter of resignation. But I will say this - I’m pissed off that it’s happened, but you learn to move on and accept that not everyone is friendly and accepting.

I’ve also decided to go to Denmark to do a Masters in Media Studies/Cultural Analysis, partly because I want to get a good job and a Masters will serve me well in the job market, and partly because I would love to experience life in a new country and learn a new language. Also, tuition fees get paid by the government as I’m an EU student, which is a bonus.

And finally, there’s Scott. He’s been the catalyst for some of the changes I’ve made to my life, and it’s nice having someone there to talk to, to hug, and to be close with :). He makes me a very happy man.

So, roll on 2010-2011, and here’s to the future :)

In a Thai kickboxing fight, who would win, Heather Mills-McCartney, or a velociraptor

Velociraptor, he’s a fucking dinosaur for gods sake, and she’s only got one leg!

Please can you explain Shrodinger’s cat?

Its basically when you put a cat in a box with a radioactive substance then put the lid on. Apparently the cat is both alive and dead because you dont know if its died from radiation until you take the lid off.

So its like, a supercat, or a zombiecat or something.

Whatever happened to the Snowdens of yesteryear?

Global warming melted the snow, so now they are just really big bits of rock and hill. Sad, really.

The Human Shuffle: ChatRoulette

An interesting article I found about the unique social site ChatRoulette - its a good article, and the writer doesn’t pretend its all sunshine and unicorn farts, which is good.

I love ALDI, but this is fucking ridiculous.

Beginnings…

Well, an increasing number of my friends on Facebook have these, so I may as well join them. I’ll put various links up on here, and hopefully it’ll stop random clutter appearing on facebook to those who don’t want to see it.

But yeah, make sure you follow me if you want to, there’ll be all sorts of crap on here :P
